Somerset Farmhouse UFH Refurbishment
Maureen and Colin Pickering wanted underfloor heating installed quickly in their remote Somerset farmhouse — running as both the main heat source and a summer cooling system. ECO FD E2C delivered foot traffic within 24 hours, UFH commissioning after 7 days, and a low-carbon, self-levelling finish across the whole floor in a matter of hours.
The Challenge
"We wanted to install underfloor heating during the Summer, and we wanted it done fast, because our research showed that this was the best time to do it. The UFH also needed to work as a cooling system, not just the main heat source, because we spend the most time with our children and grandchildren in this space when they visit."
When Maureen and Colin Pickering, the owners of a detached farmhouse in a remote Somerset area, decided to make life more comfortable for their family, they made an informed and wise decision, choosing ECO FD E2C to boost the energy efficiency of their new underfloor heating system.
The Solution
Our FD (fast-drying) and E2C (early-to-cover) technologies made a difference, with ECO FD E2C ticking all the boxes. Proving that they are not just letters, our innovative technologies allowed foot traffic within 24 hours and UFH system commissioning only 7 days after installation.
ECO FD E2C can be installed at only 25 mm over the pipe, saving on valuable floor space and enabling faster heat distribution. Where sand-cement screed would leave gaps and porosity, our anhydrite liquid screed tightly envelopes the pipes, ensuring their optimal performance. It is a low-carbon solution that can be pumped into place quickly over large areas, meaning that the entire floor area was completed in hours.
Results and Benefits
Using ECO FD E2C on this small project delivered the fastest and most suitable solution for underfloor heating. The free-flowing, self-levelling mix helped work to progress quickly and delivered an excellent finish that met the client's requirements.
Technical support was provided throughout including on-site testing to confirm compliance of the mix with specification.
ECO FD E2C has a distinct blue colour, which, in the case of future refurbishments, will instantly identify the screed to the floor layers, enabling quick and accurate decisions about the safest and quickest floor coverage.
